Relevant Experience Information.
I am an accountant who has a small practice, using my home as an office. I specialise in small to medium sized
businesses and find my teaching background enables me to assist clients in a practical way. I look for key
financial elements within their business to give practical help when required. As an example, I often
devise “tailor made” book-keeping systems to suit their business, or simply
improve on a preferred system, which ever is suitable to the client.
In my current practice I prepare accounts, tax computations for submission to the Inland Revenue, prepare Personal Tax Returns and give other financial services and reports. I deal with all Inland Revenue correspondence on behalf of over 50 clients, covering a wide range of occupations and businesses, including limited companies.
Previous appointments include initially working for three chartered accountants over a seven year period. I then moved from practice to become Company Accountant for a food manufacturer in 1986. In 1988 I was recruited by a freight forwarding organisation and then became Finance Manager for 10 years, servicing the railway industry throughout a period of privatisation. My final position before expanding my practice at home was as Group Accountant to a biotechnology group of companies, Tepnel Life Sciences plc in 2000.
I now work full time from home, which gives me an advantage over my competitors in that my fees do not include an element of overhead costs. Also, I give a personal service to my client's as a sole practitioner, and work closely with them to help improve the profitability of their business.
Whilst specialising in small businesses, I also service limited companies and prepare accounts to statutory level for submission to company house. I provide help and advice on statutory documentation, including VAT, P11d’s PAYE, Capital Gains Tax and Inheritance Tax planning, to give a complete service.
